Thanks for logging in, and Happy day to you!

WATCH FOR LOOSE DOGS!

I’ve been chased several times recently, and I know a few of you have, too.  It’s no fun getting run down by a loose dog.  It WILL happen to all of you eventually, so be prepared with a plan.  It can end badly if you don’t handle the situation right!

If you are chased by dogs while running, try to remain calm and:

  1. Avoid eye contact: Dogs may interpret direct eye contact as a threat.
  2. Don’t run directly away: Move at an angle to make yourself less threatening.
  3. Speak firmly: Use a calm, ASSERTIVE voice to COMMAND the dogs to go HOME.
  4. Keep your hands free: In case you need to use them for protection. One of the main reasons we all use waist attached leashes is to keep our hands free in case we trip, fall, or need to protect ourselves.
  5. Don’t scream or run wildly: Maintain a steady pace to avoid triggering the dogs’ prey drive.
  6. Use obstacles: Put objects between you and the dogs to slow them down.
  7. Back away slowly: If the dogs are not too aggressive, slowly retreat without turning your back.
  8. Carry deterrents: Some runners carry dog repellent sprays or ultrasonic devices as a precaution.

Remember, staying calm and avoiding sudden movements can help diffuse the situation.

If you are chased and the situation is not good, I encourage you to report the incident to the local Animal Control Officer, and follow through.  We can help you find the local Officer.

TAKE A FRESH LOOK AT THE AVAILABLE RUNS!

Some of the available dogs on the HDRC Calendar have very flexible schedules.  I place them on a day that works for my schedule, as well as the owners, but they are not limited to those days!  Check the post title, and the notes section for details about their availability

Just so the new runners understand, every dog that you see on my “Map My Run” app feed is available to you!  The runs that I do are all available to the group, and they are on our calendar.  I keep them until the right runner comes along, who wants to take over.  Then, I take on the new arrivals all over again!

The runs on my schedule are also available for you to just try a dog out, meet them and see how they run!  Just ask!

Please take advantage of our group calendar!  It’s the best location where we can all see what’s going on!  Need a run covered? Add it to the calendar.  Need a run? Check the calendar!  Set YOUR calendar up to notify you when new dogs are added, or changes are made!

WE’RE HIRING!!!

As usual, we have more demand for service than we can keep up with!  My schedule is just about maxed out, so we’ll have to get the new dogs in a waiting list until we get some new faces in the group.  Know anyone? Know anyone who knows anyone?!!  I can get cards to you to pass out to any potential runners you may know, or you can just send them to the site to apply!  Make sure you tell them to mention your name so you get your incentives!!! (see below)

$$ FOR RUNNER REFERRALS

Here’s a way to offset the cost of your running insurance, or more! (Another offer that I’ll extend as long as I can make it work!)

If you recruit a new runner, when they complete 10 paid runs, we will cover the cost of your next insurance premium payment.

When your new recruit completes 50 paid runs, you will receive $100 bonus.

So far, 3 runners have earned their yearly insurance premium, and 1 of them has earned their $100 bonus!!  Get in on this, it’s a win for everyone!

(I’ll include the LEADERBOARD in the 4/1/2024 post for the 1st quarter. That’ll give me time to get out of the lead ; )  )

Be careful out there, have fun, and tell your dog I said “Hi”!!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Happy Running,
